Building my own Arduino

Hi, I was looking at the topics and figured this was the best place to post this. So I'm going through the instructions on how to build an Arduino, found on the website, and have NO previous circuit building experience. So I was wondering, how is that whole circuit powered? I see no place for a power supply to be plugged in. Also, what if I'm using a different USB to Serial breakout board, which I am. How to I hook it up? I'm using the FTDI USB to UART TTL Converter FT232RL that I got from Tayda electronics. But other than that, I think I understand most of it and can research the rest that I don't understand.
