Building USB to Serial Communication Board from scratch

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie to Arduino,I want to build FT232RL USB to Serial Breakout Board myself, can anyone please give me a guidance? because I'm not an expert, please give me complete circuit schematic. following link is the page that describes making an Arduino on a breadboard, everything is ok but the usb to serial board which I want to make it myself instead of buying one.

thanks in advance

Sparkfun have the schematic of their breakout board available:

(see https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9716)

Only hard part is the SSOP-28 package for the FT232RL. Pins are awfully close together!

0.65mm center to center.
I'd rather use an existing module than risk damaging the chip trying to mount one on a board. Chips are $4.50, makes the board & connector & Rs, Cs, seem almost free:

And the price of the chip hasn't changed since I started arduino-ing in Fall 2010.
