Burned USB Ports

Hi all,

I wanted to try my stepper motor (28BYJ-48) on my Uno following this:
https://dronebotworkshop.com/stepper-motors-with-arduino/
Also see my attachement.
My Uno was plugged to my PC's USB port and the power supply module to a 9V1A. My power supply module was on 5V mode. I used a ULN2003 Stepper Motor Driver Module.

Since I did (it did not work):

  • None of my usb ports are working on my PC (windows code 10 in device manager, and my BIOS doesn't recognize them as well).
  • My PC doesn't shut down anymore. Instead, the screen goes black, like it is in sleep mode, but if I leave it a night on battery, it is empty in the morning. I have to force stop. I can still reboot normally, though.
  • Even if my USB ports don't detect anything, they are still powering my Uno.
  • My Uno is still working, I tried it on my raspberry pi with another sketch.

I think (I don't remember completely) that I forgot to put the ground on the Uno (see red cross on the attachment) but I am not completely sure. I am also not sure that my power supply was even ON. I am sorry for the incertitude, I am new in electronics and got confused when it happened.

  1. Does it sound familiar to anyone?
  2. Was do you think happened exactly?

Thank you very much for your help,

Nicolas

Just looking at your picture, do you have a ground connection between the motor driver board and the arduino? I suspect you have an issue with the pc, possibly a power issue, that is probably not related to the arduino setup.

Thank you for your answer.

I believe the ground connection between the motor driver board and the arduino was disconnected.
Could it have cause this damage to the PC?

You have the power supply on the wrong end of the breadboard, putting +5V on the blue bus and -5 on the red, but you are showing the ULN module connected reverse polarity, so...? How many different ways did you hook up before getting to this point?

My breadboard has the blue bus on the inside. (sorry, the bus colors should be inversed on the image)
I only tried this way.

je pc poort is maar 0,5 Amp dus je Uno slurpt dan teveel stroom van je pc dus doe je uno aan een losse adapter
