Hi - I am trying to burn a bootloader to a new atmega 328p u using an elegoo uno r3 and the isp provided with arduino 1.8.13 development environment. I have used the uno many times, so I know that the board is recognised by the pc and is working correctly. I have mounted my new chip on a breadboard and connected it to the uno according to these instructions
I get the error message 'error while burning bootloader'. I have noticed that the clock oscillator pins (9 & 10) on the new chip show 0v, with no oscillation, when using an oscilloscope. The led on pin 19 flashes when the uno is powered up. Can anyone please spot anything that I have missed, or make any suggestions as to what to try next ?
Looking at that picture, that's a really awkward way to get the pins on a crystal into the breadboard. Its usually best not to bend them. Did you lay it out exactly as shown? Are you sure the crystal is making good contact with the sockets on the breadboard? Without a running clock signal, the chip will not run or do anything.
It would be helpful if you could show your setup as per post #2.
