Burst Bits

I have been looking at LiquidTWI2 library recently to try and understand I2C better. In this and the pervious LiquidTWI library they send the data using "Burst Bits" mode.

Can anyone explain to me how this works in layman terms as I am having trouble getting my head around it?

That library uses the normal Arduino Wire library. It is not something special for the Arduino library.

It seems to be a special mode for the display. I don't understand it very well, but 8 bits or 16 bits are written to the display and the code waits until the display is ready. It seems a strange to wait for the display until it is ready, but perhaps that was needed.
