Buzzer questions

I found these on Ebay on the cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/321214590339?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649, would these require a diode for protection?

I also wanted something like this to play tones on:

No diode needed. The Active Buzzer is just the Passive Buzzer with an oscillator built-in.

From what you said, it sounds like the active buzzer would only be able to play one note, whatever the oscillator circuit is set for. So the passive buzzer would be necessary to play tones with, correct?
