Can an Adafruit NeoPixel Shield with wuth Arduino Due

The Ard Due is 3.3 V and this is 5V or so I've read. I'm planning to use this to create a VU meter. Can I use this this or will it fry my DUE?

Also any other recommendations for a simple to implement VU meter?
