Can anyone recommend some very small indicator LED's for a project box?

I'm looking for some very small LED fixtures (something smaller than 5mm) that can be mounted on a project box. Does anyone have any recommendations?

3mm exist. There is also surface mount. Or LED strips.

Hi, Google 2mm leds

or goto Digikey or RS or Farnell E14 or Mouser and use their parametric search and see what they have.

The next standard sized leds like the 5mm are 2mm, but you may find smaller.

Tom... :)

I use the ones called "sub-mini" here.

Be very careful soldering them.

Any stress on the wires whilst soldering causes them to move in the encapsulation and break free of the bonding wires.

“0402” or “0603” SMD LEDs are probably more durable.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! These all look like good options.

Thanks for the warning Paul. I have a film can filled with those, so I will be careful!

Of course, using those SMD LEDs is real fun. Best to borrow the large, perfectly white, kitchen table if you can - or buy twice as many as you need.

I like to substitute them (various colours) for the LEDs in these kits:
