Can I connect an arduino uno to usb and a battery?

Hello,
Just had a quick question: Could I connect my Arduino Uno Rev 3 to a battery through the VIN and GND connectors AND connect it to a PC or Raspberry Pi for serial communication?
Thanks in advance,
Shakeel Khan

Yes. If Vin/2 is 3.3V, the battery will power the board.

technically only if battery is at least around 7v (2 lithium/6 nimh/5 alkaline) because of minimum regulator dropout. 3.6v-4.8v battery is better connected to the vcc input. uno chip and pi officially only work off 5v but for hobby use often powered by a bit less.

Uno can run fully compliant at 16 MHz down to ~3.78V.

Allright thanks guys!
