Can I power a stepper motor driver with a 12V 30A powersupply?

As the title says I am wondering If i can connect a 12V 30A power supply to a stepper motor driver. The stepper motor driver the one used by MakeBlock and is based on the A4988 chip. Will the chip take all 30A or will it only take what is needed?

It will only take what is needed but the driver can only deliver max 2A per phase with heatsink and cooling. 1 Amp without. What are the ratings of the Stepper motors?

It will work without problems, the only think very important is to put a fuse rated for your motor near the power supply, to protect line and yourself in case of accidentally short circuit.

Not quite right. The current through the motor and the current drawn from the supply by the A4988 are totally different.

Fuses protect wires. If the supply wires to the A4988 accidentally touch, the fuse should blow before the wires heat up enough to start a fire. Fuses do not protect motors or any other component. The size of the fuse depends on the size of the wires.

Thank you Morgan, that's exactly what I meant, but I understand that my English writing it's not the best!
