Can I substitute IR Proximity sensor with PIR?

Hello

I am an automatic parking lot project, but most online projects tell me to use IR proximity sensors and my uni provides only PIR. can I substitute it PIR for IR proximity sensor?

Hi
It all depends on your project.
The IR sensor is perhaps more directional than the PIR.
PIR usually has the most open sensitive field angle.

The real point to make is that the sensors are conceptually different: one senses presence, one senses motion. You could only use a pir for an "an automatic parking lot project" (assuming that means sensing vacant bays?) if you can reliably say that motion means a change from vacant to full or full to vacant and keep the vacant/full state of any bay that way. And I doubt you can do that...

I want use it as when car enters the gate opens (servo motor), but wanted to know since I read about them but didn't understand difference between.

Then I don't think you can use a pir. Let's say you open the boom when you sense motion, and then the car stalls under the boom. The sensor would time out, think the car has gone, and close the boom on the roof.

Apologies but Currently I don't have time to buy IR motion sensor since it's not available in any shop and they won't restock till new year. And online shipment take 2 weeks. Is there a way to adjust PIR sensor to act closely to IR sensor.

That would be a pir; I think you mean a plain ir sensor?

Not as far as I know. Others may have more / better knowledge.

Thank you I'll adapt with PIR sensor then, in the future if I am doing my own project then I'll appropriately buy components
