Can i use rx or tx as digital output while my computer is providing power to it?

So I am working on a project that uses a lot op I/O pins, and rememberd that rx and tx are also digital pins. So i wonder; can I control them while my computer is only providing power to it? There is no serial communication, but only when I upload new code.

You can certainly use the Tx and Rx pins as regular digital pins if you don't need to use Serial. But you will probably need to disconnect from them to upload a program.

Are you aware that the analog pins can be used for digital I/O ?

Thanks for clearing that up! And yes, I know that. My project uses 20 I/O pins from my Arduino Micro.

On a Micro pins 1 and 2 are for Serial1 so they have no role in uploading programs.
