Can I use the arduino uno to control video?

Hi, I'm new to this type of thing but I do have experience with wiring and electrical.
My question is, can I use the arduino to control a video played through an external source (monitor, off an SD card)
I have the arduino hooked up to a PIR motion sensor and want the video to play and pause when the sensor is triggered.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Does the Arduino have line of site to the monitor? Is there an IR remote that can cause the video to play?

Yes it has line of sight and there is a remote for the playback

It is probably a 19 KHz modulated IR. Search this site for "Arduino IR remote", It should be doable.
