Can only program Arduino Mini using the 'Board > Arduino Uno' setting

When I use the correct “Tools>Board>Arduino Mini w/Atmega328” I get an error “avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00”. When using the “Board>Arduino Uno”-setting (the wrong board) everything works fine. Why is this? Should I be worried??

It doesn’t seem to be a reset-related problem; manually resetting the board on upload does not make any change. When using the “Board>Arduino Uno”-setting I can successfully upload using either manually reset or the capacitor-reset.

My Arduino Mini 04 (328) board is connected to USB using the ‘USB/Serial Light Adapter’ with reset connected via a 0.1 uF capacitor. I’m using Arduino IDE 1.0 on Windows.

Thanks for your advice,

The board type is actually tied more to the boot loader than the actual board. Sounds like your mini has the Uno boot loader.

Thanks for reply.

In case they got the Uno bootloader on them, would it pose any problem just to keep using that?

(My two Mini boards have the original bootloader, and they both need the 'Uno'-setting for programing).
