So to stir things up; Can Trump and the Republicans steal the 2020 Presidential Election by bending Laws for political ends, breaking their spirit if not letter?

They don’t need to. The silent majority will ensure a flawless victory.
I mean, I wish they were silent.

How effective is the Opposition - the Democratic campaign?

I was looking at the poll opinions and was quite impressed that cheetos opponent is just quietly getting on with the job.
No BS twitter rants and fake media taunts etc etc. just doing what he needs to stay ahead.
But despite who votes for who there are bound to be some fixes in the mix with the electoral college.
Sort of "you all vote for who you want but we will tell you who you are getting"
Not like they have much democracy down there any more really it is more an illusion of democracy and who has the biggest wad of cash to buy in.
If I had my way nobody with wealth in excess of $10m or older than 40 could stand for election.

If you bought a $11m life insurance policy, then I guess you would be disqualified.

Heh, 40 for age? So he wouldn't finish his 2nd 4-year term. ![]()
In our country president have to be at least 40 years old at the day of election.
BTW: "There are roughly 1,347,336 decamillionaire households in America." (2016)
I was thinking more on the line of acting legally but bending the Law. So, for example, the Republicans seem quite good at gerrymandering.
In the past gerrymandering was relatively hard to do because people changed allegiance and it was hard to tell who people supported. Now voters are polarised so they stick with one side or the other and social media lets parties know which side that is.
As a result Republicans have draw up some pretty strange District lines to either compress Democtrats into a small number of Districts (limiting number of Districts won) or stretching them thinly across Districts so that they cannot gain a majority.
It is legal to do, but it is bending the system.
166,000 Americans dead of the China virus.
1 American dies every minute of every day from the China virus.
‘FINALLY’ we have the proper priority given to the most important item bothering the world today.
Shower heads:
Life goes on, but OMG !
Really is that the most important thing on the agenda....
Wait is there a kickback from those un-named adverts ?

Mortality in US is almost 3 mil per year. Heart disease and cancer are lead causes. Life expectancy is about 78 years.
166 000 seems quite big number. However, statistics show up the majority of deaths from corona is above 60-70.
Compare it with life expectancy. For 60+ people: If it will not be COVID, it will be more probably heart attack or cancer or even accident.

Well then, everything is just fine.
Now I understand what this quote means:
"We have it totally under control.
It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control.
It’s going to be just fine."

I'm no fan of Trump, but what number (other than 166,000) would be the ideal number?
IMHO a big part of the problem with COVID-19 is the rosy expectations that politicians have created when they did not have the courage to tell the electorate "This disease kills people".

I'm not claiming that. The number is high, in a half of year and despite measures against covid. It is not over yet. It is early to do some final conclusions but sometimes it seems to me like let keep the panic. End of the year will show if there is significant growth in whole mortality. Anyhow, we need to be more optimistic.
In our country 31 deaths so far / 5mil people, currently 2 cases on ventilation, 2739 infected up to now. The most of people overcome without any symptoms or with very light symptoms.
Going back to the Original Question I think it is fair to say that elections are lost rather than that they are won. In other words, if Trump wins it will be the fault of the Democrats.

My hope is that Cheeto looses and they have to EVICT him on live TV !
Bonus would be in a straight jacket.
Well in Australia if the party in power wants to, it can change our Prime Minister due to poor performance, political back stabbing, lack of confidence by the public, it can without going to the polls and in 24hours.
We don't vote in a governing party, then a President, we vote in a Party AND Prime Minister.
We don't have to suffer for 4 years, then horror of horrors the possibility another 4 years.
That way if the Prime Minister looses his noodles, or goes TRUMP!!, its easy to change him/her.
At one stage we were changing Prime Ministers as quick as the arrival of a new moon.....
The US system has me sometimes confused, you elect a government, then elect a President who is then allowed to call himself/herself "leader of the free world".
AND I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM/HER!!!!!!
Oh I love the fact that I live in Austraya...

Okay so Republican gerrymandering of districts does not disturb you. How about cleansing the electoral rolls of those they think will not vote for them? I have hear, and am happy to be corrected, that some Republican states have wiped upto 20% of electors off their rolls. In addition they restrict the documents needed to register and limit the places that voting take place. In other words they make it difficult, expensive and time consuming for people to vote against them. In line with my original post this is all of course perfectly legal, but perhaps not what the laws were intended for?
ardly:

I didn't say that. I object to gerrymandering as much as anyone.
But a political party that thinks it's OK to blame the winners and say "we wuz robbed" is never going to get anywhere. Sad fact of life.
