Cannot access device-specs for 'atmega328p'

Dear All,

I am new to arduino and I recently purchased a Arduino board and installed IDE. Following are the details,

Board - Arduino UNO
MC - Atmega 328-P PU
Windows version - Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit
Arduino IDE 1.8.0

I selected the board correctly and port correctly (Updated the driver in windows as well)
When I try to Verify the Example “Blink” programme, it gives following error code. I have checked the folder “device-specs” and there I can see a file “specs-atmega328p”

I also tried serial monitor and when I send a letter Rx LED also blinking.

Further, after resetting the board, the Pin 13 LED is blinking.

Please advice. No one got same issue before???

Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino Uno.

I installed the same Setup in Windows 7 Sp1 32bit machine and it works perfectly. therefore, I think IDE 1.8.0 is have something wrong with Win 8.1 environmental variables. Tried installing latest JRE also. But no solution.

therefore, I think IDE 1.8.0 is have something wrong with Win 8.1

Mightbe yes or - your system got messed up like all Windows based systems do everytime a bit more when

  • they restart
  • they get wonderful Microsoft updates
    If you don't believe me, ask Aunt Google. It is true to all Windows systems right from the beginning.

So the only chance to see if it is 8.1 related would be to hook your Arduino to a fresh 8.1 installation.

Not sure the problem I had is the same as the one you are facing, but have you checked what com port you arduino is connected to?

When I checked my pc (Win 7 64 bit) it said that my arduino board was connected to COM3 but starting the arduino sketch and checking Tools -> Ports it said COM1.

So I unplugged my arduino board and connected it again and checking Tools -> Ports it showed both COM1 and COM3 so after ticking box for COM3 everything worked fine.

That's happening when something else is connected on a USB port.

Arduino IDE doesn't automatically know where your board is connected to.

Nevertheless, this is a potential problem for newbies who then select the wrong port and wonder why the IDE doesn't see an Arduino there.

thanks everyone for your valuable comments. I have done following things,

  1. Install Driver and select correct com port
  2. Install and update every update
  3. Do all available win 8.1 64bit updates

Also I tried using portable version as well. No change. So, I think, its a problem with my windows version. So, I continue to use win 7 computer. It works perfectly.
