As in title, cannot setup the IDE for DUE. In my board manager list I find only Duemilanove or Diecimila
Is there a possibility, or is this board too old?

You need the include the SAM ARM boards - the Due is not an AVR.
Many thanks, I found how to install that ARM board, but the guide where I found the installation shows now how to select a port, but this line (below the one with "Board Arduine Due (Programming port)" is empty.
Try the quickstart guide. https://docs.arduino.cc/
If the COM port does not appear after working through the guide, you may have a power only USB cable. Keep trying different USB cables until you find one that works.
Many thanks Icebuster, your remark about the cable gave me the idea that perhaps the Arduino should be connected to the laptop. That was not told in the instructions, and how should I know that for just installing some software on the laptop...
however, the Due is now running merrily on.
