Cannot see FTDI USB serial connection

Hi!

I am trying to use Arduino with the Meggy Jr. board from the folks over at Evil Mad Science. I am trying to connect using an FTDI TTL-232R-5V.

No matter what I do, I cannot get the serial port to show up under Tools-->Serial Port ...

I have tried on both my WinXP box and my Macintosh. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. The board is up in functional, but no connection is apparent.

Can anyone provide any advice as to what I should try next?

Last time someone had that problem here it turned out to be the USB lead. Brand new and came with the board but it was faulty. Check that out with another device.

Thanks -- similar advice on another forum leads me to believe that the USB cable is indeed bad.

Another one is on order; we'll see how it works when it arrives ...

Aah I can't believe I didn't think of that before. I'd been finding my Arduino would connect whenever I switched computer, and that was confusing me. Guess it was me moving the cable that'd make the connection work for a while

New FTDI cable came in the mail. Works like a charm.
