Can't Communicate with UNO

Greetings,

I am running Windows 7 SP 1 64 bit OS on a Dell Studio 1555 laptop. Looking back, I lost the ability to communicate with the UNO around 5/15/2015 after running some windows updates.

I tried uninstalling the software, reinstalling it, uninstalling, updating to the latest version, all fail to work. Initially, when I opened Device Manager, there was nothing that referred to UNO in any of the categories.

I found an article that led me to add the Ports (LPT and COM) and then install the UNO drivers. I have attached screen caps of the Device Manager showing the Ports and the expanded USB section.

The Ardinuo shows up as you can see, however, it has the yellow triangle with exclamation point. I tried updating the drivers many times but still nothing works.

I am wondering if the Ports is used for traditional 'hardwired' ports and is not the correct place for a virtual COM port since my laptop uses a USB connection for the UNO.

Would someone who has a running UNO using the USB for connection could verify where their UNO port shows up (in the USB section or under the Ports)?

Then I need help to troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks for your help!

Hello!

Somehow, port COM4 gives problems for me too, when I tried to connect another Arduino unit.
Try to use Port COM3 or any other, BUT NOT COM4.

And be careful of Arduino clones, that will try to connect to port COM4... I already got one fake clone...

By the way, On Windows 8.1 should be no problems. I have W8.1 and hopefully it goes smoothly. Just use port COM3.

Best regards!
