Can't launch any version of Arduino IDE [SOLVED]

Hi guys

I've tried to open Arduino IDE 1.6.6 tonight and the start up screen pops up for a few seconds and then shuts down. I've spent several hours trying different versions all the way up to the latest but I get an identical outcome.

There was no board attached while doing this.

Not sure if related but I have had an issue updating Java 32-bit recently. I was getting a 1603 error at the end of installation. I eventually got around it by uninstalling all java products and installing JDK 1.8.0-102 32-bit and 64-bit versions which have the jre with them.

I have trawled the internet and found several similar problems (some of them on here) but all seem to be associated with specific versions of the IDE and related to some device that was being used with the board.

I'm not sure if I will be getting any crash logs associated with the shut downs but if there is I can provide them if you let me know where they will be.

I find myself at a total loss now and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Ginge

You can get some information on the crash by starting the IDE via arduino-debug from the command line. Please post them using code tags(</> button on the toolbar).

@pert

Thank you for the quick reply. On opening up arduino_debug through the command line I spotted what was up. I had a system variable for _JAVA_OPTIONS -Xmx2G for when I was doing some stuff in Eclipse. I remembered reading a similar problem might be with the amount of memory allocated, so I dropped it to 1G and it opened up fine.

Simple fix but never would have got it without your reply.

Many thanks.
