Can't load Blink. "Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino Uno

I got my first Uno loaded with the snake game on Saturday.

I’ve tried to load Blink. Just get this message (shown below ===).

I can see the Uno and its COM port. Both LEDs are on.

Using Windows XP.

This device is working properly.
If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter.

I have gone to the Library and installed U8GLIB, as suggested by a Youtube video (with mixed results in the comments section).
No change.

I’d be very pleased if someone can help me.

David.

Despite what it says on the download page, I think there is an incompatibility of Arduino IDE 1.8.10 and Windows XP. Please try using Arduino IDE 1.8.9 instead. You can download it here:

pert,

that worked fine. Simple but vital.

Thank you.

You’re my hero.

Now, what trouble can I get into next…

You're welcome. I'm glad to hear it's working now. Enjoy!
