Can't load bootloader.

I'm using an Arduino board as a test bed for AVRStudio projects. I download the hex with the STK500 interface. (It is a Pololu serial interface with is part of the baby orangutan range). All works fine.

Every now and then I want to try some Arduino software wihich necessitates re burning the boot loader.

I cannot download the boot loader using the Arduino software using the ISP. I get "avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00"

I can however download the hex with AVRStudio but if I then try to download a project with the Arduino environment, I get the same error.

I'm a bit confused as to how to go forward.

Marsheng: I cannot download the boot loader using the Arduino software using the ISP.

Please state the exact steps you took to attempt this.

Connect power to Duemilanove board

Connect ISP - Device manager - Serial - Pololu at Com4

Loaded Arduino Software

Select Serial Port - Com 4

Programmer - AVR ISP

Select Board - Arduino Duemilanove with 328

Burn Bootloader

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x2a

Nothing on the ISP Programmer lights up. I had just previously downloaded software from AVRStudio with the same setup and it worked fine.
