can't run a bipolar stepper motor

Hi this is my first question on this forum so please correct me if this isn’t the right place to post, my question.
I have these bipolar stepper motors and I have been driving them with some easy drivers from sparkfun, but the problem is that easy drivers isn’t that cheap, so one of my friends gave me this drivers L6205N but I can’t get them to run this stepper motors, and I asked him how to use the driver and he said just use the Typical Application in the data sheet, and I tried the best I can but I can’t run the motor.
And then I asked another friend Google but the crazy thing that he can help me, I tried these examples at this site (I know they not are for arduino):

Now i give up and ask you guys for help, so are there someone out there know how to hook this L6205 up to a stepper motor and a arduion???

Need more information. Do you have an example of your setup? What is your power supply? More information helps.

I used a 12V power supply, and it worked just fine with the easy driver.
I have tried to use the typical application setup in this datasheet: http://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHNICAL_RESOURCES/TECHNICAL_LITERATURE/DATASHEET/CD00002345.pdf
But with no luck.
I also tried this just with an arduino instead of a TTL….

also with no luck.
but right now I’m so lost that i don’t even have a setup anymore, any idea would be nice?

Are you sure the chips are even any good? Sometimes things don't work because the components are bad...
