can't upload simple programs on Arduino Uno - please help

I just bought the sparkfun electronics "sparkfun inventor's kit".

I have downloaded the arduino IDE, verified the serial port, followed all the steps
listed in the booklet: " sparkfin inventors guide", page 03, ....

yet i cannot seem to upload any of the examples files, once opened.

For example when I try to upload the 'Blink' program, I get the following error message:

"Error compiling.
avr-g++: createProcess: No such file or directory"

this is very frustrating, can someone please help me ?

Do you have Cygwin installed by any chance?
Also, remove any reference to "GCC_EXEC_PREFIX" from autoexec.bat and also remove it from the system variables list under system properties.

If not, what OS are you using?
What version of the Arduino IDE?

Hi

thank you for your help. This is so frustrationg

  1. I am using Windows XP
  2. I did a file search and I do have cygwin files
(specifically cygwin.dll in "arduino-1.01" folder and a few other places)

The version of Arduino IDE is 1.0.1
The kit is Arduino Uno which I just recently bought.

I am too afraid to start changing registry files without specific
detailed instruction of where to go and what to do...

Do you have any suggestions please?

Thanks
