Can't upload to Wemos D1 mini amymore. Flooded serial port?

Hello,

I have a Wemos Mini D1 clone and the uploaded sketch sends a lot of data to the serial/USB port.

After some time of good operation, the board has started to cause some trouble into the USB. Big lagging happens with my mouse for instance as long as the board is connected. If I try to upload a new sketch, the port is said to be busy. It still happens if I push on the reset button or if I relaunch the computer. So now I am completely in a dead end.

What is happening and how can I get the control back over my board?

Try holding the reset button in for 5 seconds, then click upload. Continue to hold reset until the message about the sketch size appears. Hold for one more second, then release.

It solved the issue. Thanks a lot @PaulRB. However I don't understand what causes this issue. It has happened once again later.

I'm not sure. A modern PC should cope with serial data as fast as the Wemos can send it.

Could some overvoltage from the circuit connected to the board trigger this, or some division by zero?

Is there some source of over voltage? That might damage the usb adapters in the pc and cause some strange effects. Division by zero? No. If division by zero could cause problems like this, I would have caused the end of the world by now, single-handed. Perhaps there is a circle of Hell reserved for programmers who cause too many division by zero errors.
