Can't use special symbols on the Arduino IDE

Hi guys, this is probably a silly problem, but I've looked around and I can't figure it out. I simply can't use symbols like: " " ; ' '; ~ ; in the IDE. But outside the IDE they work just fine!

Does anyone knows any solution?

I'm using Arduino 1.0 and my OS is Linux Mint 9.

What exactly are you trying to do?

I have the same issue on linux, at least with the 'tilde'.

Writing something like

PORTB &= ~_BV(PB5);

just doesn't work. The 'tilde' is ignored, so I have to copy it over from another editor.

That's exactly what happens to me the "tilde" and "quotes" are ignored. I also have to copy from another editor.

Does anyone knows?
