I'm trying to build a battery powered capsense circuit inside a metal tin, am I doomed to fail?

I'm using the AT42QT1011 sensor and the circuit I have made works great with the board outside of the tin, but when I put it in it will not work. I guess it makes sense, this is a fairly sensitive circuit and enclosing it with metal is probably going to mess it up. I have tried changing the capacitor and the resistor on the sensor trace, but I'm not particularly well informed about what I am doing here. If anyone has any ideas of how I could make it work then that would be great.

Yes all you need to do is to change the laws of physics and that will work fine. Mind you, you can't do this in this universe so maybe you should visit some other ones.

Haha, I was getting that feeling! Wasn't sure as the cage is part of the circuit, being the electrode. Will try something else... I was done with this universe anyway. Thanks for looking.
