Hello! New to Arduino family!
I want to make my own car central locking device. I have some basic knowledge in coding and also in electronics. What I want is to put an Arduino Uno in the car with RF Reciever and some relays kit.
What I found i think would be the easiest method to do this is:
or
The first option is cheaper but can I have 4 buttons and with functions press and press and hold? For example, I would buy a keyfob with 4 buttons like this and connect it to reciever in the first option, but what I need is maybe like this: Button 1 press-Door lock;Button 1 press and hold-Door unlock...Button 4 press-Trunk release;Button 4 press and hold-Close all windows. If this is possible I hope I will find answers and examples how to write the code for it and also how to connect all the relays to operate with Arduino. The easiest part...connect it to the car wiring
I have some more options in my head (activating the starter interrupt, coming home light etc.) but there is a long and hard way to get to that.
Thank you and I hope someone will lead me the right way!
The first one needs a board and power source on both ends. I doubt you want to carry that around.
The second is poorly made but good for learning. These things don't code hop.
Honest opinion, if you do have some knowledge in electronics, just buy a proper keyless kit. They're easy to install, I installed them as a high schooler. And they're only about $60.
Bear in mind that nearly everything in a modern car is controlled through the onboard computer. So assuming you can just splice into the computer control of the windows and door locks may be incorrect. Before investing a lot in this project, I'd see if you can simply activate these items. I just tried to pull the running light fuses on my car, and it sent me all kinds of fault messages.
OK i understand everything you wrote and I get you...
But...
I have keyless central locking which locks, unlocks, find car option and mutes the beep when car locks or unlocks. I don't have option for windows closing, trunk release, coming home light etc. 60$ is too expensive for keyless kit, I could buy one for maybe 20$ which can do all these things but where is fun in that???
It is not a modern car, it is a Alfa Romeo 156 from 1998, which uses wires and relays, nothing more. There was an alarm with central locking, which just stopped working. I want to find out what can I do with Arduino and why not make something that I can use daily. I want it to close all windows when I press lock twice, open windows when i press unlock twice, open trunk when I press and hold unlock (maybe), also I have a circuit for coming home light which I want to connect to Arduino via photoresistor, interrior lights via photoresistor etc...
Your question as to " can it be done?" is yes, it can be. Rather or not "you" can remains to be seen. I would rather see you with something blutooth controlled from your phone. The hardware is cheap and easy, software about as easy so all you gotta do is take some time, your UNO, a few relays and you should be done in a day or two. If you have any further questions feel free to ask, but be prepared for smart ass comments and narcissistic views from other people on here. I'm happy to help any way I can.

Thank you for the reply! I got used to these comments because everybody underestimates me and my persistency when I put my mind on something.

Also want to try this, when I put everything together and when I test it and it works then I will order a bluetooth adapter to control everything by phone. After that maybe a GPS locator...after who knows, OBD error reader because it is an Alfa, you never know what fault is it going to show next
