CE, FCC certification and RoHS compliance

Who knows about CE and FCC certification and the deal with RoHS compliance?

Here are my questions: - When do you need to CE certify a product - When do you need to FCC certify a product - RoHS compliance -- is using 60/40 solder is ok in places?

What are the best sites to read up about creating a piece of hardware for sale to US and European markets?

How does China export all the knock-off products to all countries without being CE/FCC or RoHS compliant. Also, the old Arduino (non-UNO) was not FCC or CE certified -- how was it allowed to be sold?

I'm new to hardware and would like to get some understanding of this space a bit better...

Best, Danny

  • When do you need to CE certify a product

When you are selling it in the EU. CE is a self certification scheme.

When do you need to FCC certify a product

When you are selling it in the U.S. FCC requires testing in recognised test houses.

RoHS compliance -- is using 60/40 solder is ok in places?

No.

What are the best sites to read up about creating a piece of hardware for sale to US and European markets

Look at the FCC web site for the U.S. and the Department of Trade & Industry (UK) for the EC.

How does China export all the knock-off products to all countries without being CE/FCC or RoHS compliant.

By breaking the law. And falsely putting certification marks on things.

Thanks for the info.
