CED player modificaton.

I'm thinking about modifying one of my CED players to have a cleaning mode to clean the discs in case they are dirty. I think that all this would require would be to have an arduino board control the turntable motor, stylus arm motor, and a silonoid to control bursts of air to blow the dust off of the disc while a small vacuum sucks the dust up before it lands on the disc again. I want to be able to have different cleaning modes and a way to select them via an lcd screen on the front of the player and a few buttons.

Does this sound like something that can be done relatively easily with an arduino board or do I need to find another way? Keep in mind I've never done an arduino project before. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you want to be making major modifications to antiques?
Won't this affect their value?

You can get non working players off of ebay for 10 to 20 dollars. Usually what is wrong with them is the video part not the motors. There doesn't really seem to be any shortage of them either.

But to answer you question. Yes I do want to make major modifications to antiques.
