The video is about making a replacement for the PID controller with an Arduino. You could make something like that for a bit less than the cost of the commercial unit but if you account for the value of your time I think you'll find that the commercial unit is cheaper. The primary value of the DIY solution is that you can design it exactly to your needs and you will get a lot of education and enjoyment from the project.
