Checkbox Next To Thread Titles

In front of each title in the forum listings is a checkbox. These seem to be randomly, and sporadically checked, perhaps one in 15-20 threads. WTH do they mean??

Also, is there a way to NEVER get notifications from others posts, other than manually going in and setting the thread to "Muted"?

I think the checkbox is a way for the person who started the thread to indicate that their question has been answered.

That's correct. This is a feature added by the "Discourse Solved" plugin, which we are currently experimenting with using in the forum:

The empty box indicates that the topic creator (or moderators) have not marked any of the replies as a "Solution". The checked box indicates that the topic creator (or mod) has marked one of the replies as a "Solution".

There is some previous discussion and demonstration of it here:

and here:

As I said in the other threads, I think this feature has the potential to be very useful, but I'm also interested in the opinions of other forum members.

I like the idea that someone can flag something as solved.

This was a common request in the previous forum and we were guiding users to edit their first post title and manually add [solved] which was not obvious

Yes, it is nice. But it takes the space where once there was the symbol that marked threads I had written to… if that information is still as easy to see I am missing it. Sometimes mine will be among the responders icon party squeezed onto the line, but it doesn't always make it on there. I don't know if there is a way to put my icon on the list I see or if everyone has to see the same list in which case we won't all be seen.

Can't someone automate the addition of SOLVED to the title? So clicking a button would just do that instead of checking the box. I also note that SOLVED wasn't used very much, I acknowledge that it may have been due to the several steps involved in doing.

Still missing who the OP is, I think, and real times and dates, not minutes and hours relative to now.

Still missing who posted last and when.

I would prefer to see names not icons.

Are you talking about the old forum software?

I thought we were interested in less visual clutter. A small checkbox provides the information in a lot less space. Now, it is true that the meaning of the checkbox is not quite so obvious, but this information is most important to the forum regulars, and they will all surely learn its meaning quickly as time goes on. For newcomers, once they open the forum thread, the "solved" state is communicated much more clearly (example here).

Let's try to keep this thread on topic. We had our fun with going off on a million tangents in the "Do you like the new forum?" thread, and that's fine, but I want to get back to being more serious about efficient discussion and sharing of knowledge in the rest of the forum.
