Doc,
Don't know if this helps but, every time I plug in a new UNO into my windows machine it installs the same inf file again and assigns it a unique com port.
Kind of a pain when installing the same sketch on three boards, I'm always forgetting to change the com port.

Oh GOD OF ARDUINO, THANK YOU, thank you, thank you... iT SEEMS TO BE 'Happy' at least the device is listed properly under the USB tab instead of other devices. This was a comedy of errors and I make a most POOR Comedian, AGAIN Thank You Sir. Now I can REALLY PLAY.. make more mistakes. At least I learn something every single time... IMO

To Put Paid to this whole thread, the Clone works, I can U/L a Sketch, see it work (Blink) it was small and an easy test, Modify the time delays and reload it and see the new values in operation.
Again Louis Davis, Thank You... Now I have that 4D systems 3.2 inch SGC display coming tomorrow (Birthday present to MYSELF!) and I can have even more Fun.
On a more serious note I don't know how many times I tried that last night and today... with much the same results as when I try "Cowboy Coding" Again thank You.
Doc
You're welcome. No problem at all. Glad you are up and running.
I think I have a similar clone from ebay (5 for $100)
I am having problems too
I load the regular arduino driver but it is so slow to upload that it times out before loading even the blink sketch (the rx led blinks very slowly during up load --like 1 blink per 20 seconds)
what is worse now my genuine mega does the same thing and it was working fine before
update
My UNO works just fine with the skylab GPS chip
serial is normal and the up load is normal -- at 9600 b
but all the megas (genuine and 'china') are extremely slow even when the computer says the device is working properly at 9600
OK
this is is weird
I ended up setting my computer to a previous working version
now all the megas are working 'genuine' and the 5 'china' versions
I am not sure what happened but they all work now so I am happy
maybe a driver got corrupted -- dunno
I've Never had issues like that, perhaps because at the first sign of trouble I save anything important and delete the directory that contains my "Corrupted" files and Re-install the program (s) affected. IMO

I is actually the first time I have had 'issues' with the arduinos (well ok I forgot to change the board type once or twice ![]()
