Choose approach for implement capacitive led-strip project

Hi,
I have an idea to improve my kitchen lights.

I want use full addressible led strip to put it under counter top under the some frosted galss like in this video:

I also have plan to add connect few capacitive sensors (foil or e.t.c) each half meter. So the idea is to "feel" human existence near part of counter top and light up this spot.

I have no question about how to use full addressible led strip but i doubt if it's a good choice to connect 10 capacitive foil strips to the 10 pins. It will be about 10-15 meters from from arduino breadboard to the far foil. Also will the the wires from all foils sensor interfere with each other since they all go along together under countertop? Can I have other options or sensors to "feel" some body existence and send this information to the arduino?

Thank you.

Don't you think "feel" is a bit vague?

Paul

Capacitive sensors are not well suited as proximity sensors - find out yourself. You may be better off with PIR sensors.

Hi Paul. You mean in terms of sensitivity?
I have some demo project with capacitive sensor and it works well enough for 10-15 cm distance.
I am fine with false positive triggering. Let's led strip will be a little alive

I consider PIR sensors, but I worry it will be light up whole led strip because the range of sensitivity for PIR sensor is up to 7 meters and 140 degrees. It will cause a multiple detector sensed. Am i wrong?
