Choose control board and tiny printer?

Hello!

Looking for some advice: I want to have a tiny printer, the same kind as on a handheld label machine, and I want to decide what will be printed on it. Is a Arduino UNO necessary or do smaller chips exist for this kind of task, that could be programmed? Are there already modules for this? Have not found any myself.

Other Arduino variants (the Mini, for instance) use the same AtMega328 chip as the UNO, but in a smaller form factor.
