If I am not interested in buying bulk resistors, then which values are the most common to get? The components I have are,
LEDs
555 timer IC
7 segment display
Pushbuttons
Speakers
Thumb joystick

10k
top few off the top of my head, course if your going to be messing around with that 555 timer its better to have a larger selection and / or some variable ones
I would agree with that.
Also as was said, you want a variable or two for adjusting sensitivity of sensors among other things
