Choosing the correct wheel for a motor

Hi,

I am currently looking for guidance in finding a wheel for the Banebots RS-540 DC Motor. I have found the specifications but have not been able to find a wheel for it. I am also looking for a motor mount, which I currently don't know if it is necessary or not.

The choice of wheel will depend on the robot or application as well as the motor. There is great design and construction information on this site.

You must put a pic of the motor...

Try this motor geared box, give to your robot car a low speed but good torq...

You're going to need more than a motor mount to use that motor.

First off, you need to figure out (or find and purchase) a means of gearing down the output of that motor; no load speed is 16,000+ RPM - you'll want to bring that down in the range of 100-200 RPM, maybe less. Dropping the speed using some form of gearing will also increase the torque.

Unless you have good mechanical design and building skills - I would not attempt to DIY the gearing (you might be able to implement a belt drive - though even that can be tricky with such high input speeds, at least for the first couple of stages).

Also - have you found the motor controller you plan to use with this motor? Keep in mind it's stall current requirements; you're going to want a controller with a maximum current output capability of that number plus 15-20% overhead (so about 50 amps or so).

You'll also need to figure out the final drive output torque for your gearing - and calculate the needed torque for a given wheel size and expected terrain...
