I am trying to open and close a gate after a certain number of products pass a sensor. I am unsure which board and electrical components would be suitable for my application. Can you please provide some insight on what I would need to get this done?
We need to know what torqe, or force is needed for the door movement.
How will the mechanism be made?
- A power supply maybe two
- An Uno
- A break beam sensor.
- A motor or linear actuator
- A motor/actuator driver
- Maybe 2 limit switches.
- A lot of wire
The force required is 7.53N. I would like to use a pneumatic cylinder with a 3/2-way pneumatic valve to open and close the gate using a solenoid.
Then You need a compressor and a valve driver that can be done using logic level N channel MOSFETs a few resistors and a kick back diode.
No need for a Microcontroller to do this, a couple of logic chips, a couter or two, a couple of 555 timer chips and a buffer chip to run the drivers & sensors.
Then add a compressor, possibly a relay to control the compressor and a pressure sensor, two pneumatic solenoid valves and a solenoid driver to the list that jim-p provided.
If this for an industrial application, then you have to think about how you package the Arduino and how you maintain it ( who fixes it ) .
I would also just buy something to do it , cheaper , easier , more suitable .I guess you could use the rugged Arduino PLC product ??
Yeah its for industrial use. I'd looking into what you recommended. Thanks!
