Christmas is Approaching :)

First off, Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you may celebrate) early!

Christmas is fast approaching, and, as always, my family has no idea what to get me. I was thinking of suggesting some components for use with my Arduino (Duemilanove), but I'm not sure what would be "cool".

I've already suggested a nice 16x2 LCD display, but they still want more ideas.

I'm thinking probably in the $10-$30 USD range, so if anyone has some suggestions, they'd be appreciated!

I really recommend the tellymate shield video display driver. It's a lot of display power for the money. Works with any AV input display, NTSC or PAL formats. There are several good demo sketches on the manufacture's web site.

Wow, that's a pretty interesting shield! But, realistically, it seems like it's not something I would use much. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll definitely look into it!

Oh but grasshopper, who knows what applications you might dream up in the future. Wired to a nice portable LCD display and you have quite the bees knees for output display applications.

That is true...But even so, being a "newbie" to Arduino, I think I'll wait until I'm more familiar with the system :P.

One think I'm asking for is more ram for my laptop and a 260 GB hdd
And that's just for starters.
Edit: Ooh... that video thing would be neat...added to the list...

added to the list...

Yes, that's my problem as well at the moment, too many things are just being 'added to the list' which is now about as long as my arm...

Maybe a screw (wing) shield:

Maybe something as simple as a reel of solid strand wire, some solder and heatshrink...
IR proximity sensors?

BlinkM (if you don't already have one):

Logger board:

Jumper wires?

All very cool ideas, thanks Mowcius!

What is the difference between a BlinkM (BlinkM - I2C Controlled RGB LED - COM-08579 - SparkFun Electronics), and say this product: http://www.cutedigi.com/product_info.php?products_id=4212&osCsid=3a86dbb352d4f56445f2d5afcfce6282 if I use the arduino to program it?

Well...One of them have a chip...So my guess is it is easier to control?
Hmmm...That's neat... Added to my list...

The blinkm has an onboard chip that can store your colour sequence and then play it standalone, and it can be programmed by i2c or just sent commands via i2c on-the-fly in a program...

Very cool! A bit pricey for me though :P. Hope Santa brings it to you haha :D.

You should see my wish list, its literally 10 pages long.

You should see my wish list

I'd love to see it haha (if it's online of course)! :stuck_out_tongue:

Everyone say ooo!

Looks nice, I think you'll just get coal though ;D

I added a handful of Shiftbars and Satellite Modules from macetech to my wish list:

And don't forget about tools! A new soldering iron - how about butane? I've used these for about 20 years now.

Needle nose pliers, diagonal wire cutters, forceps/hemostats, tweezers, wire stripper/crimpers, pin crimpers... ahem... reflow station
