Circuit short circuited laptop?

I am trying to create an ultrasonic radar system that uses an Arduino Uno, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor and SG-5010 servo motor. I have a 12V power supply AC converter) that I connected to the arduino and a USB to my laptop, but my laptop suddenly turned off when trying to plug these in and is not turning back on. It seems like I shorted the USB port, and that somehow screwed up the rest of the laptop.

I cannot remember whether I plugged the USB cable or power supply in first. I think my circuit is designed correctly, but I’ve attached an image to describe it just in case. For what it’s worth, I used jumper leads and had to crudely tie a couple together to split the 5v and gnd.

Is there a flaw in the design of my circuit?
How am I supposed to upload a script to the board in this case? With or without the external power supply connected?
What can I do to prevent this from happening again/what may have caused my laptop to dry?

Disconnect as much as you can from your laptop and try to re-boot

Hi,

have you searched the internet for your laptop make / model looking for reboot or reset procedures?

I've had problems with laptops that I've picked up from thr local auction room and there are various things to try dependng on the make...

power down at mains,
remove the battery,
press and hold the power button for 30 seconds,
release it,

apply mains power, try to boot it...sort of thing.

I've recovered a couple using procedures like this.

As suggested by ballscrewbob, I also took out as much as I could...Wifi, RAM, HDD, etc.
