Clear Mega 1280 Flash help?

Somehow I got my Arduino Mega (1280) in a state where all it does is rapidly blink pin 13. Tried reloading the bootloader and the load seemed to work OK but the blinking continues and I can't load a sketch to it either with my USBTinyISP or the bootloader.

I'm wondering if one of you AVRDude experts can give me some guidance in completely clearing the flash to get it into a state where I can reload the bootloader and get it running again.

Or does somebody have a better idea?

(I did order an Arduino Mega 2560 and a Seeduino 1280 so I can get back to work on my project next week but I'd like to salvage my Mega 1280 if possible.)

it seems it somehow lists the Successful load of the Bootloader however which is not advent as if the Bootloader program would have actually loaded it would have not appended the previous program rather than taken it's place.
