Clicking Noise

Hey there,

so I've been playing with the tone function, trying to create sweeping sounds (Like a siren) and it works pretty well, but at certain points there's an annoying clicking noise. One points i've isolated is when going from 972 Hz to 973 Hz.
Looking at the waveforms with my scope, it seems that the only irregularity is an occasional point in the square wave, where the wave doesnt actually go down for 3/3 points rather than 2/3. I don't know if this is the cause tho.
Does anyone know if this can be fixed in software or if there's some hardware fix?
