this is the modulo operator. it gives you the remainder of a division
for example 10 / 3 = 3 and remainder is 1
so when you do integer math 10 / 3 = 3 and 10 % 3 = 1
➜ by taking the modulo by 60, you get the seconds (as the remainder will always be between 0 and 59)
