Closed-loop feedback with stepper motors and encoders

Stepper motors, are extremely amazing with encoder feedback, and offer a wide range of ability and control.

And my question is is it possible to have a code that would reflect these qualities on the arduino and has anybody tried making a stepper motor with closed loop feedback sketch? A sample code would be an amazing ground to start and I was curious if anyone would have a link to such a thing. Any help would be extremely appreciated.
