Cloud connection, but local access for Wifi button

Hi, so it has been a couple of years since I used Arduino. I started using it in 2013 for a project to control my lights and it has been rock solid. Sold the house, and now in a new house and seeing WOW things have changed and many of the problems I had before are solved.

But I have been searching and here is my problem. I want a cloud connected device for editing, and maintenance, but want to use a Wifi local button to turn the lights on or off. I understand you can send commands to the Arduino cloud, but that is not a good idea if the Internet is down, but local network is up.

The sketches for IOT seem to have communication code and I don't want to all of the sudden add more communication code that disrupts the cloud stuff. Is there an already available local area connection? Eg some kind of Web server? Mqtt Server? TCP server?

Although this is not an official project by Arduino (yet), I'm personally running this one on a Nano ESP32 in combination with a bunch of Shelly buttons/plugs/relays and I'm quite satisfied so far: GitHub - alranel/Arduino_MQTT_Gateway: Gateway to have MQTT devices synced with Arduino Cloud variables
With this approach I have local communication (does not rely on Internet connection), but also remote control via cloud (including the Arduino IoT Remote mobile app) and OTA to update the code on the various devices. :slight_smile:
