You mentioned the Opla kit but then you say you don't want to use the carrier. But the MKR IoT Carrier is the component of the Opla kit that has the RGB LEDs. So this implies to me that you are planning to connect some other RGB LEDs to your MKR WiFi 1010 board. We need to know about those.
The reason is because the answer to your question will be different depending on whether you are using standard passive LEDs, or addressable LEDs such as the WS2812 (AKA "neopixel")-style or APA102 (AKA "dotstar")-style.
