Sorry I can't be of further help as I've not played with DVD motors.
If you were to edit the title of your discussion to something like "Driving DVD motors with A4988" and move the discussion to the "Motors, Mechanics, Power and CNC" category, hopefully you will get further assistance.
There are forum members who have used CNC shields and they would be able to advise you better than I can.
