code not compiling correctly

i have two different sketches obtained from http://www.freeduino.de/blog/nokia-1100-lcd-display
neither of them will compile and i cant figure it out
i figued one of the people more familiar with the code might spot the typo/formatting error thats catching me up

the first one on that link gives me
sketch_mar12a.cpp: In function 'void LcdCharacter(char)':
sketch_mar12a:116: error: invalid conversion from 'const byte*' to 'byte'
sketch_mar12a:116: error: initializing argument 2 of 'void LcdWrite(byte, byte)'

and the second one tells me
sketch_mar12a.cpp: In function 'void LcdPixel(byte, byte, int)':
sketch_mar12a:559: error: invalid conversion from 'byte*' to 'byte'
sketch_mar12a:578: error: incompatible types in assignment of 'byte' to 'byte [780]'

so lines 117 and 560/578 respectively

if this isnt the right place i apologize in advance

It would be really nice if you posted the code here so we know exactly what you're talking about.

However, if I'm reading this correctly, the problem is that the LcdCharacter function is trying to pass a pointer to a byte (ie an array) to the LcdWite function, which takes a normal byte.

To fix it, you're going to have to make LcdWrite take a byte (just change the start to:

void LcdWrite(byte, byte*) {

) and then make LcdWrite iterate over 5 lines rather than just using shiftOut once. I'm not sure how to do that, since it's pretty much hardware-dependent.

So, in essence: The code you've copied is incorrect.

EDIT: Actually, it's probably a better idea to not change the LcdWrite function and instead make LcdCharacter call LcdWrite 5 times, once for each row. However, it still depends on exactly what kind of hardware you have.

thank you for checking it out
i have an arduino uno r3 which i believe is compatible with dueminalove sketch's (atmega 328)
this is the first code the second one is too long to post here but is on the end of that page i linked to

Moderator edit: CODE TAGS. You forgot the CODE TAGS

ok i got it to compile and am about to start testing (gotta find some small resistors)
i just searched for the beginning of this code section on google and found a 99% similar one (syntax?)
i figure its best to break it down and understand it

original code

void LcdCharacter(char character){
LcdWrite(LCD_D, 0x00);
for (int index = 0; index < 5; index++)
LcdWrite(LCD_D, ASCII[character - 0x20]

);
}

new code

void LcdCharacter(char character)
{
  LcdWrite(LCD_D, 0x00);
  for (int index = 0; index < 5; index++)
  {
    LcdWrite(LCD_D, ASCII[character - 0x20][index]);
  }
  LcdWrite(LCD_D, 0x00);
}

after comparing the two i figured out that it wont compile without LcdWrite(LCD_D, ASCII[character - 0x20][index]); instead of LcdWrite(LCD_D, ASCII[character - 0x20] );

(the addition of [index] on the end)

this one is workin and it has a button routine built in (pin 12 high)

Hello,
Can you tell me how you connected the LCD to the Arduino.
Or can you make a wiring drawing of it.

Manny thanks
