Which Arduino model are you using (Uno, Mega, ...)?
The problem is that this person to abandon the project and his blog was updated only in 2011. It gives the link containing the arduino 1.0 with all necessary libraries. But with all this impossible to compile the code into arduino 1.0. The card used is an arduino nano
Do the error messages say something about missing files? Have you downloaded and properly installed all of the required libraries? That is my best guess until we get to see the error messages.

OP - due to the nature of the project (a firework display control system) I strongly advise that you do not proceed with this project until you have more experience with the Arduino
