coding 8x8 display using buttons

(deleted)

pinMode(buttonPin, INPUT);

Does the button (switch) have a pull down resistor so that it is not floating when not pressed?

The using using millis() for timing tutorial might be of interest.

What does that snippet of code actually do? What is it supposed to do?

Please read the "how to use the forum-please read" stickies to see how to properly post code. Post the whole sketch.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.

Please read the first post in any forum entitled how to use this forum.
http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php/topic,148850.0.html then look down to item #7 about how to post your code.
It will be formatted in a scrolling window that makes it easier to read.

Can you please post a copy of your circuit, in CAD or a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?

Thanks.. Tom... :slight_smile:

if(millis()>now + 10000){

This is better done with more meaningful names for the variables, using a variable for the period to make understanding and maintenance of the code easier and subtraction using appropriate variable types to prevent problems with millis() rollover to zero

Something like

currentTime = millis();
if (currentTime - startTime >= period)
{
  //do something
}

All variables that deal with time (now) should be declared unsigned long. Maybe it is, but we don’t know because snippet.
